AI companion robots and smart toys: fluffy pet, Luka AI assistant, dancing sunflower, and humanoid bot—enhancing interactive experiences.

How Are the First AI Companion Hardware Devices Performing in the Market?

As one of the earliest platforms to closely track AI companion hardware, we’ve been following its journey since the beginning. At this year’s CES, AI companion hardware was one of the most talked-about product categories, alongside AI glasses and AI robots. With media and investors hyping up the industry, AI companion hardware has become a major trend.

Reports projecting AI companion hardware as a billion-dollar market are everywhere. But instead of just riding the wave, it’s essential to look at actual market demand. Some companies have already taken the lead, launching or preselling their products. So, how are these products actually performing?

Sales and Pre-order Performance

  • GrooveX (Japan): In 2019, GrooveX launched the emotional therapy robot Lovot at a premium price of 880,000 JPY (~$6,000) with a monthly service fee. Since its release, over 40,000 units have been sold worldwide, with Japan being the primary market. In February 2024, Lovot entered the Chinese market with a starting price of ¥70,000 (~$9,700), and accessories such as clothes priced between ¥700-¥1,200.

  • Haivivi: On June 25, 2024, Haivivi officially introduced BubblePal, the world’s first interactive pendant toy powered by AIGC. It was officially launched on July 30, 2024, priced at ¥499 (~$69). The founder revealed that the expected sales for 2024 are around 80,000 units.

  • Moflin: A smart AI pet toy co-developed by Casio and startup Vanguard Industries, Moflin was priced at ¥2,815 (~$389). After launching in November, it quickly sold out, with second-hand prices skyrocketing to over ¥10,000 (~$1,380), reflecting its immense popularity.

  • Cupboo (by Hangzhou Jianmo Tech): Launched on November 13, 2024, at a price of ¥1,399 (~$193), Cupboo quickly sold out, particularly during the Chinese New Year, becoming a popular gift choice for families.

  • FoloToy: Known for producing AI companion toys, FoloToy partnered with ByteDance in 2024 to create a high-profile AI plush toy. Following this success, they released AI Fire Rabbit, AI Cactus, and AI Sunflower toys. The company has shipped nearly 20,000 AI toys to consumers, with projected shipments of 300,000–500,000 units in 2025. With prices ranging from ¥200-¥500 ($28-$69), FoloToy expects revenue in the tens of millions (CNY) by 2025.

  • Yijia Yiban: Launched on December 6, 2024, the AI children’s companion robot (Aixiaoban Nairon edition) sold out its first batch in just three days, prompting urgent restocking and increased production.

  • Super Dad Co.: In September 2024, they released Xiaochuang AI Q&A Machine, a smart home device that sold nearly 10,000 units in just one quarter.

  • Mengyou Smart: On December 12, 2024, the company launched the AI companion robot Ropet, priced at $189 on Kickstarter. Within 24 hours, over 400 units were sold, generating nearly $100,000 in funding. As of now, total crowdfunding has exceeded $202,000.

  • Looi Robot (by Touchable Future): Launched on crowdfunding platforms in February 2024, Looi Robot was priced at $129 per unit. By December, it had secured 4,000 preorders, raising $518,000 on Kickstarter and $130,000 on Indiegogo, totaling $648,000 (~¥4.72 million).

These early AI companion hardware products have enjoyed significant first-mover advantages. Many companies anticipate 2025 sales to grow several times—or even tenfold—compared to 2024. The overall market outlook is positive, positioning 2025 as a breakthrough year for AI companion hardware.

2025 AI Companion Hardware: Upcoming Releases

Looking ahead, 2025 is set to bring even more AI companion devices, further expanding the industry. Here are some early previews of what’s coming next:

  • LingTong Robotics is developing a multi-modal emotional humanoid robot as a standardized hardware platform for AI models. Set for launch after Chinese New Year, this desktop-sized humanoid robot will feature an exclusive robot app store, digital content, and customizable accessories.

  • Tongxin AI (LoveAI) is an innovative AI companion robotics startup with a team from leading AI and internet companies. Their first product, loviPeer®️ (meaning “AI companion with emotions”), has completed prototype development and is expected to launch shortly after Chinese New Year. It features ultra-low interaction latency, real-time interruptions, long/short-term memory, visual emotional feedback, and multi-party interactions.

  • Luobo Smart: Their first product, set for release in early 2025, is an “AI Buddy” targeted at young women seeking emotional companionship. Their flagship model, “Sunday,” debuted at CES.
